Join me in supporting the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association!
I teach in a two room schoolhouse on an island in Maine. I have been teaching place based science for over 25 years and I use the island as my classroom. My teaching about the ocean has lead to many amazing opportunities. I have lobbied on The Hill with The Ocean Conservancy, I have been “The Teacher at Sea” on a science research ship studying plankton and blogging her experiences back to classrooms, I also have helped create curriculum for teaching aquaculture in the classroom and have presented at the national level on how to grow kelp with students. My students have worked on coastal erosion projects. The work I have done allowed me to receive The national Edward C. Roy Jr. Heard for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching award in 2023. I was recently named a finalist for Maine’s Presidential Science and Mathematics award.
Teaching about the ocean and its uses is very important to me as well as The Maine Coast Fisherman’s Association. The Maine Coast Fisherman’s Association supports Maine fisherman and their families such as mine with education about health wellness, sustainability of fisheries, and use of infrastructure.
I am running to support The Fishermen Wellness program. The program supports fishermen by providing resources for mental, physical, and financial health.
