Help Maine fishermen fight hunger in our communities

Fishermen Feeding Mainers was an idea born out of a crisis. Markets for Maine fish collapsed, more and more folks in our community were struggling to feed themselves and their families, and we realized we had to do something to help.

It took months of planning and a lot of community support, but we made our first donation of 10,000 pounds of pollock fillets to Good Shepherd Food Bank in October of 2020. We haven't looked back since.

Over the past 16 months, MCFA has provided over 400,000 meals to 65 local community partners and schools in Maine while at the same time keeping local fishermen and Maine's working waterfront working.

We aren't just feeding Mainers, though. We are supplying our schools and partners with some of the best food in the world, and the educational materials needed to store, prepare, and love Maine seafood no matter their background or experiences.

Unfortunately, as the pandemic continues, Maine is still facing increased food insecurity. Close to 14% of Mainers struggle with hunger everyday. Requests for seafood donations from this program far outweigh what MCFA is currently able to provide.

Together, we can provide good, healthy, sustainable seafood to thousands of Mainers in need while also supporting local fishermen and Maine’s working waterfront.
